Helen Willson

Looking at art has always been important to me but trying to create it came later. Working with mixed media and acrylics, I interpret -in a semi-abstract /stylised way -the bright colours, textures and shapes of still life and landscape.

Workshops with inspirational tutors are an enabling experience and give me the confidence to experiment with techniques and materials. I prefer to respond to the painting as it develops, often with the ‘history’ of the painting visible in layers and brush marks. I like allowing the image to appear- and disappear - without imposing a preconceived idea or trying to make an accurate representation of the subject. So each piece remains very much a process of trial and error ….but with (I hope!) pleasing surprises and outcomes as part of the challenge!

I paint with Studley Green Art Group, Studio 18 and am an Associate member of West Wycombe Art Group. I enjoy taking part in exhibitions and open studios. It’s a great compliment when someone chooses something that you have created.
